SilenceTrimmer
100% Local & Secure

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 30, 2026. This policy explains how we collect, process, and protect your information, highlighting our commitment to local processing.

1. Core Philosophy: 100% Local Processing

Unlike cloud-based video editors, SilenceTrimmer operates entirely on your local machine. All video processing, silence detection, audio waveform rendering, and exports are executed locally using your own hardware (CPU/GPU). Your media files (videos, audio recordings, project files) never leave your device, and we have zero access to them.

There is no cloud upload feature, and there is no analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind inside the desktop application. We do not know which files you open, how long you edit, or which features you use.

2. What the Desktop App Sends

The application makes network requests in exactly three situations, and never sends media in any of them:

  • Starting your free trial: the app sends your device identifier (described in section 3) and the app version to our servers, which return a signed, time-limited trial grant.
  • Activating or re-checking a license: the app sends your license key, your device identifier, your device name and the app version. Re-checks run quietly in the background so that renewals and refunds take effect; if they fail, your app keeps working offline.
  • Checking for updates: the app requests the current version file from updates.silencetrimmer.com. This is an ordinary web request and carries no license or device data.

Your license is stored on your own device using your operating system’s encrypted credential storage, and is verified locally by cryptographic signature. That is why the app continues to work without an internet connection.

3. Information We Collect

We collect minimal data necessary to validate licenses, facilitate payments, and improve user support:

  • Purchase & Billing Data: Payments are processed by Creem (our Merchant of Record). We do not collect or store credit card details or payment credentials. We only receive verification of purchase, transaction IDs, your email address, and generated license keys. This license data is stored in our license database hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure in the European Union, and is retained for as long as your license remains valid plus any period required by law.
  • License Activation & Device Mapping: To prevent piracy and enforce the device limit, activation records a device identifier — a one-way SHA-256 hash of your machine’s hardware ID, which cannot be reversed back into the original value and contains no personal information. Alongside it we store your device name (the computer name your operating system reports, for example “Studio iMac” or a name you chose yourself — this can contain your name, and its only purpose is to let you recognise which machine to deactivate), the app version, and the dates of first and most recent activation. Deactivating a device from inside the app deletes that record.
  • Free Trial Records: Starting a trial stores the same device identifier with the trial’s start and end dates, so that one device receives one trial. This record is kept permanently by design — deleting it would allow the trial to be restarted indefinitely. It contains no name, email, or contact detail and is not linked to you as a person unless you later buy a license from the same device.
  • App Update Requests: The application checks updates.silencetrimmer.com for new versions. As with any web request, our hosting provider records standard server logs (IP address and user agent) for security and reliability purposes.
  • Support Inquiries & License Recovery: When you contact us or submit a support ticket, we store your name, email address and ticket details in order to help you. When you ask us to resend a lost license key, we look it up by email address and send it to that address only.

4. Cookies & Website Analytics

This distinction matters: the statements above about local processing describe the desktop application. This website is an ordinary website and does use analytics.

  • Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and navigate the site. Analytics cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner — consent defaults to denied until you choose, and your choice is remembered in your browser.
  • Strictly necessary storage: your cookie choice itself is saved in your browser’s local storage. This is required for the banner to work and is not used for tracking.
  • Google reCAPTCHA: our support form and license-recovery form are protected by reCAPTCHA, which receives your IP address and interaction data from Google in order to distinguish humans from bots.

You can withdraw or change your cookie choice at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for silencetrimmer.com, which brings the banner back.

5. Third-Party Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or monetize your personal information. We only share data with trusted service providers essential for our operations:

  • Creem: Our billing agent and merchant of record. Handles checkout, payment details, subscriptions and refunds, and administers our affiliate programme. Subject to their own privacy terms.
  • Cloudflare: Hosts this website, our license database (EU data centres), our application downloads and our CDN.
  • ZeptoMail (Zoho): Delivers our transactional email — for example your license key after purchase — through their European infrastructure. Our support mailbox is hosted with Hostinger.
  • Google: reCAPTCHA on our support and license-recovery forms, and Google Analytics on this website subject to your cookie consent (see section 4).

If you arrive through an affiliate link, the partner’s referral code is recorded with the purchase so that commission can be paid. Affiliates are paid through Creem and never receive your personal details.

6. Legal Basis & Compliance (GDPR / CCPA)

Because SilenceTrimmer processes all video files locally, we are neither a Data Controller nor a Data Processor for the media files you edit; we have no access to them under GDPR, CCPA, or other data protection acts.

For personal information collected via our website (email addresses, support tickets, license keys), our legal basis is the performance of our contract with you (facilitating purchase and product activation) and our legitimate interest in securing our software and solving technical issues.

You have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of your personal data (license records, activation records, and support records) by contacting us at support@silencetrimmer.com. We respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; if you are a California resident, you may exercise your rights under the CCPA/CPRA free of discrimination.

Two limits apply to erasure, and we would rather state them plainly than surprise you: we must retain minimal purchase records where tax and accounting law requires it, and the trial record described in section 3 is kept permanently, because it is what prevents the same device from taking an unlimited number of free trials. That record holds a non-reversible device hash and two dates — no name, email, or contact information.

7. Software Lifecycle, License Terms & Disclaimer

We use industry-standard security practices to protect data transmission (TLS encryption) and storage. However, please be aware that no system is 100% secure.

Software Lifecycle & "Lifetime" Licenses: A "Lifetime" license is perpetual and validates offline — your Software keeps working even if our servers are retired. "Lifetime" includes every update we release for as long as SilenceTrimmer is developed, at no further cost; it is a commitment never to charge you again, and does not constitute a warranty of perpetual development or support services. See our Terms of Service for the full license terms.

Disclaimer of Warranties: SilenceTrimmer is provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind. Under no circumstances shall SilenceTrimmer, its developers, or affiliates be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use of the desktop software, loss of data, or file corruption.

8. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time to reflect updates in legislation or app capabilities. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
